What routes can I take to become a financial analyst?

Please could you give me a bit more detail on what you mean by a 'financial analyst'? I work as an Analyst in our Transactions department. This predominantly involves assisting with both financial and non-financial due diligence on proposed corporate finance transactions, rather than in depth macro and microeconomic research.
