What are your working hours like in TAS?
Additional information
Hi Rachel. I was hoping you could give some insight into how long your regular working week is. Also what's the longest working week you've had and how common are these? I want to gain an understanding of the type of commitment your role requires so would appreciate your insight. Thanks!

Hello,
While this is a common question, it is actually quite hard to answer I am afraid. Transactions do not have a 'busy season' as is common in other departments such as audit. Our working hours are much more variable and depend on the transactions that we work on; there can be large peaks and troughs. If there is a tight external deadline or a very short project, the hours can be long. However, these tend to be for short periods of time and in quieter periods you're able to leave before 6pm. Teams always try and manage hours and ensure flexible working is encouraged. That said, on average, we do have longer hours than much of EY, but equally are much better than investment banking hours.
I hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate that working hours vary but when you mention that there are long hours on certain projects, what's the longest working week you've had? I appreciate you won't be able to say for everyone but for you personally, what's the longest working week you've had and how common have these been through your time at EY? Also how much, if any, travel is required as part of your role? I'm really interested in applying for a role in TAS but just want to be clear what type of work and working hours I'm signing up for before I commit to this career path. Thanks!

Hi,
The amount of travel in your role can vary greatly between the different competencies within Transactions. Certain teams are more likely to be working at the client's office which could mean either national or international travel. For example, when I was in the Restructuring team I spent a lot of time working in Europe and when I was in OTS I was working in Edinburgh. However, other teams such as Valuations are generally based in the office. In terms of the busiest week I have had, there have been weeks where I have eaten dinner in the office most nights, but these are few and far between and are always recognised by your teams. Again, this can vary significantly between teams and projects because I've also had extended periods of time when I have left by 6pm.
I hope that helps,
Rachel
