Applying to transactions without any internship or business experience, will it put me at a disadvantage?
Additional information
I just recently graduated with a Maths degree and I am looking for a career in financial services. Whilst I am researching all the business lines, I am considering to work in the transactions division as I like to understand how financial deals work. In particular, I am interested in how the buy-side and sell-side works. My concern is that I did not do an internship nor do I have any experience in business. Hence, I am concerned that it could put me at a disadvantage for my application to EY. So I like to know whether there is some chance of me becoming successful in getting into transactions or would I be better of applying to other business lines? Also, I researched that working in transactions is fast-paced and it involves a lot of analytical and strategic thinking. Would I need to demonstrate these skills in the application process or is it something I will pick up as I do projects? How much support and training would there be to help settle into the role? Thanks Visnu

Hi Visnu,
Prior experience isn't a requirement for the graduate scheme, we are looking for people with an interest in transactions and an enthusiasm to learn. You will be given all of the training and support you need on the job. You will also be assigned a 'buddy' to help you settle in to the office and answer all your small questions.
I hope that helps.

Thanks Rachel, how strong should my commercial awareness be during the application process? Specifically for the Transactions Support vacancy.

Hi Visnu,
It's good to have a certain level of awareness of the industry you're applying to, e.g. Financial Services, to show your interest in it. In addition, having an understanding of developments that may affect EY as a whole will be a plus.
That said, you don't need to be an expert by any means and when you join EY will give you all of the support and training you should need.
Thanks
Rachel
