What kind of works would assurance have in a day to day basis?

Hi Kaitong! I myself joined in Assurance as an intern and then later on graduate programme so can answer your question. We spend the majority of our time out on client site as we are understanding the clients financial statements and their processes so it is easier for us to be there asking people face to face. It means we're often out at different locations and meeting people all across different businesses and industries! We are always working in teams of various levels in the company and there is a lot of team work involved which is really nice and a strong coaching culture. We will mostly be discussing the client's business with them and also drilling into their numbers and results and challenging anything that doesn't look right!

I had experience visiting insurance company and how they approach different clients and as a broker or consultancy. But I seem to be a little bit confused about insurance and assurance.

Yeah so assurance is more giving assurance to the shareholders of companies that the results that are being reported are correct. So we do various tests to check these numbers and then our audit partner will sign off the accounts to give that assurance to the investors/shareholders

So you are approaching shareholder of the companies instead of the management level?

We do hold discussions with management to understand the running of the company but our report we sign is for the shareholders

So assurance is more related to audit?

Assurance and Audit are the same thing:) we just call the audit department Assurance within EY!
